  • BioWorkflow Competition
    • Come to find out more and REGISTER at our LATEST WEBSITE NOW! (August 2007)

    • Participants
All are welcome. Please bring your laptop if you are interested to have some hands on exercises. During the workshop a VMware installation will be provided so that you can experience building workflows to conduct sophisticated analysis, and to share your results with others by publishing the workflow as Web based portal applications.

    • Competition
After the workshop, a list of qualified trainees will be selected to enter the formal competition. InforSense will provide in-depth training to the qualified participants. Topics include workflow methodology, and how to implement sophisticated analysis in InforSense KDE and related products via web-based training, which will be finished before 1st October,2007. The participants of the competitions should submit their workflow and related documents before 30th June,2008. The result of the competition will be announced before 30th August,2008.

During the competition period, InforSense will provide InforSense KDE and related product license to the participates. The license enables you to carry out the exercises in the workshop, demonstrate workflow technology for your colleagues in your institute and conduct research based analysis.

    • Prizes
Attractive Prizes are provided by InforSense for the top winning participants include a three month expenses-paid internship at the prestigious Institute of Bioinformatics in Shanghai and InforSense, China, where you have opportunities to collaborate with top application scientists on some challenge projects, and you will learn how the InforSense workflow technologies are applied in prestigious life science research institute, top pharmaceutical companies, and best research universities around the world.

Individual participants and team participants are welcome. The registration website will be available shortly at http://www.inforsense.cn/InCoB2007Competition/ or http://www.inforsense.com/InCoB2007Competition/

The duration of the Competition will be scheduled in due course.

    • Introduction
Bioinformatics research, database management, data mining and other related activities are scaling up to levels which cannot be handled efficiently with manual techniques. Many organizations handling database creation and management are resorting to workflow integration. In the InforSense talk and workshop, we will share the experience of delivering rapid workflow integration solutions for researchers in academia and industry is described based on InforSense analytical platform. Use cases will be discussed along the concepts of workflow integration.

InforSense (http://www.inforsense.com) is an advanced informatics infrastructure that enables scientists and researchers to make better decision and enhance productivity across life science R&D, chemistry, healthcare and business analytics. Using InforSense flagship product, InforSense KDE (Knowledge Discovery Environment), decision-makers can easily derive the knowledge they require to make better decisions, faster.

InforSense provide domain specific analytical components in key areas of life sciences research, include Genetics, Genomics, Bioinformatics, Cheminformatics and Computational Chemistry. InforSense's life science analytics have a number of benefits, including:

      • Rapid and accurate high throughput data analysis enabling faster cycle times for drug discovery, development and clinical trials.
      • Unifying platform for bioinformatics, cheminformatics, statistical genetics and translational medicine.
      • Domain specific techniques reduce dependency on IT resources.

Complete and comprehensive Life Science research requires specialized capabilities for bioinformatics, cheminformatics, statistical genetics and integrated reference to existing bodies of scientific research. Furthermore, user requirements for these different informatics disciplines vary greatly, but to be successful, these areas need to communicate more using a unified advanced analytical platform. InforSense KDE is exactly such an integrated environment to meet this need.

In this workshop, the InforSense China team will present the InforSense KDE system as a tutorial demonstration and a hands-on workshop, and will encourage participants to set up the system to practice bio-workflow building, deployment and publishing.

Qualified trainees will be invited for additional training and software will be provided for the participants to enter formal InCoB2007 Workflow Competition.

    • Competition Judges
This competition will be judged by a panel of bioinformatics experts who will assess your submission of your workflow application based on the following criteria:
      1. Quality and Significance of scientific and/or technological problem being addressed
      2. Appropriateness and elegance of the bio-workflow solution
      3. Scientific and Technical soundness
      4. Quality of results and Presentation
      5. Innovation and Novelty

The International Panel of Judges to be invited include:

      • Yike Guo, CEO Inforsense
      • Carole Goble, University of Manchester
      • Tim Littlejohn, President, Bioinformatics Australia and IBM Healthcare
      • Tan Tin Wee, Board Director, ISCB; APBioNet; National University of Singapore
