Formation of the Inaugural ExCo for InCoB

Following the successful organising of InCoB 2002, an international conference initiated by the Thailand organisers from BIOTEC, NECTEC, NSTDA of Thailand, and organised in collaboration with APBioNet and T2 Thailand Tropical Diseases Research Programme http://incob.biotec.or.th/, it has been agreed by all key parties concerned that InCoB should be continued from a year-to-year basis, rotating through key cities in the Asia Pacific region to promote the aims of InCoB - awareness, training, promotion and scholarly research work in Bioinformatics.

To supervise and coordinate the open processes of ensuring that that InCoB is successfully organised from year to year, it was agreed for APBioNet to drive this in through the formation of the inaugural Executive Committee for InCoB (ExCo).

To inaugurate the ExCo, APBioNet is in the process of appointing the following persons to the Protem Committee to initiate the formation of the Inaugural ExCo.

InCoB ExCo

  1. Principles of Size and Composition of InCoB ExCo

    The size and composition of the InCoB ExCo is based on the following principles and any amendment so adopted by APBioNet in the future.

    1. . geographical diversity
    2. . key mover and shaker of bioinformatics nationally or internationally
    3. . track record in conference organisation
    4. . commitment of time and effort
    5. . limited number of persons for effective and speedy decision making

  2. List of Potential InCoB ExCo candidates

    Based on these finalised principles, the Protem Committee will create a shortlist of potential candidates of the InCoB ExCo for immediate appointment as the Inaugural InCoB ExCo by the Asia Pacific Bioinformatics Network (APBioNet) as follows:

    3. First Representative from InCoB 2002 (Thailand)
    4. Second Representative from InCoB 2002 (Thailand)
    5. Open for nomination (other countries)

  3. Terms of Reference of the ExCo

    The Protem Committee shall work with the Incoming ExCo to prepare a mutually agreeable terms of reference for the Inaugural InCoB ExCo to adopt, including aims, conduct and operations of the Inaugural ExCo, as approved by the APBioNet.

  4. Inauguration of ExCo

    Upon formation, the ExCo shall initiate and conduct the Request for Proposals for Hosting and Organising the InCoB 2003 conference well in time for potential bidders to submit their proposals, and in time for the ExCo to review and select a winning and a backup bid, and for the ExCo to announce during the InCoB2002 conference, where the InCoB2003 conference might be held next.

  5. Invitation to APBioNet Members

    In this regard, on behalf of the Protem Committee, the APBioNet secretariat would like to call for volunteers to fill the vacancies in the Inaugural InCoB ExCo.

    Candidates are encouraged to send their intent to sit on the ExCo to [email protected] by 24 Dec 2001 (Latest! extended to 25 Jan 2002). Self-nominations are acceptable.

    As it would be difficult to evaluate incomplete submissions, please ensure that all items are completely filled and promptly submitted to the APBioNet Board and to the Protem Committee for their selection.
