Plenary and Keynote SpeakersWelcome
to InCoB/ISCB-Asia Joint Conference 2011
The InCoB/ISCB-Asia Joint Conference 2011 is jointly hosted by
the Asia-Pacific Bioinformatics Network (APBioNet, http://www.apbionet.org) and International
Society for Computational Biology (ISCB, http://www.iscb.org). In addition, the
conference is also organized in collaboration with the International Immunomics
Society (IIMMS) and the Malaysian Society of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (MaSBiC).
The main objective of the InCoB/ISCB-Asia Joint Conference 2011 is to provide a platform for experts and budding bioinformaticians to discuss and exchange ideas and thoughts on the development of bioinformatics in the Asia Pacific region. The International Conference on Bioinformatics (InCoB) began in 2002 and has since grown to become one of the largest bioinformatics conferences in the Asia-Pacific region. Now in its tenth year organized by APBioNet annually as its flagship conference, InCoB has enjoyed national support since its first meeting held in Bangkok on 2002 and up to the last meeting in 2010 in Japan (Tokyo). This annual conference showcases the latest research and technologies in all areas of bioinformatics and is attended by practitioners from both biology and computing backgrounds in the Asia-Pacific region. With the endorsement and joint organisation of this event as a Joint Conference between APBioNet and the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB), the foremost global organisation for bioinformatics and computational biology in the world, InCoB this year, designated as InCoB/ISCB-Asia Joint Conference 2011, is slated to be the biggest bioinformatics and computational biology event in Asia. InCoB/ISCB-Asia Joint Conference 2011 provides for an international forum that will present conceptual and practical issues in cutting-edge Bioinformatics applications and findings from sequence and structure analysis, molecular evolution, healthcare, agriculture, environment and diseases to next generation sequencing technology platform and data analysis. InCoB/ISCB-Asia Joint Conference 2011 intends to attract a balanced combination of biologists, computer scientists, bioinformaticians, biomedical engineers, physical scientists and statisticians. As thought leaders, movers and shakers of the field gather in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, InCoB/ISCB-Asia Joint Conference 2011 will also feature key initiatives such as the MIABi standards (Minimum Information about a Bioinformatics Investigation), the BioDB100 project (100 bioinformatics databases compliant with MIABi) and will discuss the proposed BioSW100 project (100 bioinformatics interoperable software). Key issues in Biocuration, in particular, the recent support by APBioNet of the BioDBCore joint initiative of the International Society for Biocuration (ISB) and BioSharing will feature prominently. In addition, policy issues such as the ISCB's Public Policy Statement of Open Access to Scientific and Technical Research Literature will be explained to garner wider support amongst Asia Pacific researchers.
