Jurg Ott

Brief Biography

After obtaining my PhD degree in Zoology from the University of Zurich, Switzerland, I briefly worked in a pharmaceutical company but then went to the University of Washington in Seattle, where in 1972 I obtained an MS degree in Biomathematics. I stayed there on the faculty but went to Switzerland in 1979 to become the Associate Director of the City Statistics Office in Zurich. In 1986, I accepted a professor position at Columbia University and in 1996 moved to Rockefeller University, where I am now a Professor Emeritus and Head of the Laboratory of Statistical Genetics. I am also a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in Beijing.
